Dr Kam Yuen in Kung Fu
Many people know Dr Kam Yuen as the world's foremost pain relief expert and Master of instant pain elimination. Others are aware that Dr Yuen was the top practitioner of Shaolin Tai Mantis Kung Fu and was awarded the prestigious title of Grandmaster. A fact that many people do not know is that Dr Yuen was instrumental in popularizing Kung Fu in the western world.
The Kung Fu TV series in the 1970's was responsible for making Kung Fu widely known, but at first the fighting scenes in the movie were not even Kung Fu, but Judo. David Carradine, the star of the show, wanted the fight scenes to more realistic and convinced the producers to bring in Kam Yeun, then a renowned Master in the Los Angeles area. The rest is history. The Shaolin philosophy and action packed fight scenes put Kung Fu on the map and brought the martial arts world into the living rooms of millions of people.
